You Can't Go Home Again

I'm in high school again, and so is my sister (even though in real life we were not in high school at the same time).  I'm wearing really short shorts, and just when it's time to go I realize that I really need to shave, but we don't have time.  In real life we lived right down the street from my high school, but in the dream we live somewhere else, so I am really excited that we actually have a drive and can listed to a few songs on the way.  My dad is driving my sister and me to school, and we decide to stop off at our old house.  We go in, and while it looks like someone else lives there, we don't think they're there, so we go into my old room and then I decide I need to look for a razor so I can shave.  We don't find one, and then we realize that the new owner is there, and he is not happy about us being there.  We look in the garage and he has what appears to be a really fancy compact car, but it is actually just a really fancy golf cart.  My dad says we have to leave, but me and my sister both really think we need to shave before going to school.  My dad ends up telling my sister we can skip school that day.  Being the goody-two shoes that I am, I can't believe he would say we can just skip school for the whole day, and as a compromise we decide that we'll just skip first period so we can shave but not miss the rest of the day.

 

As a side note, there was a teacher at my high school who was a short shorts nazi - she would stand in the hall just waiting to catch someone in violation of the dress code.  I've never been a big fan of someone telling me what I can and can't wear, so I would just try to avoid that teacher's hallway.  Perhaps this dream sums me up in a nutshell - not one to skip school (at least not the whole day without a good reason), but I ain’t gonna follow your stupid dress code.  

Fight For Your Right

Subconsciously I must be much more worried than I realized about the playing music too loud issue.  Shortly after remembering the dream about hearing my music from across the street, I had another dream involving loud music.  We were having some sort of party at my house, which was more like an apartment.  It was a small group, and things were really not out of control, but there was of course music playing, probably rather loudly.  At one point later in the night I go to check my answering machine, which is more of an email/phone message system, and notice that I have multiple messages from the apartment complex people saying we're being too loud, which is followed by some messages from the police, and then finally a message from the apartment people saying that because I ignored the other messages, I will be evicted!  I'm not too worried about it though, and think I'll just go back to the party and take care of it in the morning.

 

I Play My Music Louder Than You'd Like Me To

I'm always wondering if my neighbors can hear the music I play in my house.  Apparently this is something I worry about in my subconscious.  The other day while I was blasting a selection my ipod hadn't spit out in a long time, I suddenly remembered a part of a dream I had recently where I'm walking down the next street over from my house, and I was surprised to realize that you can hear my music from that far away!  I'm sure that's not the case in real life, but who knows, I've never actually tested it.  And in case you're wondering, I was playing some Springsteen in the dream.

So You Wanna Be A Rock 'n Roll Star

This dream was a random assortment of things that flowed from one thing to another.  At first, I’m going on a big trip overseas with my family – to Europe I think.  But it is a big ordeal trying to get everyone packed and to the airport on time.  Of course I have way too many bags that I’m trying to cart around.  Then it turns into me having to prepare and pack for a trial that is going to be out of town.  We have to get everything boxed up and shipped out.  I have to dig through all of these boxes that are in a storage room to find what I need, and I am really mad because no one is helping me.  There are people from other groups that are having to do the same thing, but they all have a lot of people helping them.  Then it turns into a concert that we are about to attend.  There is a band playing that in real life I had just heard on VH1 radio, and I realize that my friend from high school’s husband is the lead singer of the band.  This is really weird because he totally had an office job (I don’t know about in real life, but at least in my dream that’s what I thought), and then all of the sudden became a rock star.  Why can’t this be my life??  Instead I’m stuck with all the boxes.

Don't Stop Believin'

I’m at a karaoke bar, and my friend says to me, “You should sing Kiss by Prince.”  I say, “WHAT? Kiss my grits??”  This is followed by laughter.  A lot of laughter.  Laughter so hard your stomach hurts.  The kind of laughter you haven’t experienced in way too long.  Laughing so hard you start to cry.  And this actually isn’t a dream.  This is a true story.  Maybe my finding this so hilarious is a sign that my life is too dull.  But hey, sometimes you just have to laugh.
